Furry studies is a relatively new field and one that – largely – aims to tackle the negative stigma and perceptions around the furry fandom, a community that I myself am part of as Vanguard and one that had shown to be a thoroughly welcoming space. My research will examine the idea of the furry fandom as a safe space for exploration of identity, as often proposed in more positive articles about the fandom in media and posited by sociological studies of the community
