Teaching Music: The Curriculum for Excellence - An Interdisciplinary Approach

This research project explores the use of music as a tool for engagement within the Curriculum for Excellence, Scotland. More specifically, this practice-based PhD analyses the use of IDL (Interdisciplinary Learning) approaches to enhance learning across a range of subject areas out with teaching within the music classroom. Research draws upon the Curriculum for Excellence Music Policy and IDL documentation as the framework from which two classroom projects are developed. Key thematic material within the research including identity and musical memory, create a framework from which to expand and explore. Core questions are centralised on the CfE policy documentation into practice, musical pedagogy and interdisciplinary learning approaches.
