Decolonising the relationship between speech and rhythm in minimalist compositional practice

This research project examines the close relationship between speech and rhythm of the English language, both formal and vernacular, and minimalist compositional practice, before expanding this body of knowledge through the creation of a portfolio of new minimalist compositions which focus on the phonetic rhythms, prosodies and language patterns in Mandarin and Cantonese. My project intends to explore the impact of the relationship between decolonized speech and rhyme and minimalism.
