What are the factors enabling and limiting the agency of social and political artistic practices that engage with communities, the political imaginary or activism? How can artists expand them?
My research uses theoretical, quantitative and qualitative survey methods to analyse and reflect on the effectiveness of politically- and socially-engaged contemporary art. I will examine the relationship between skills and artistic agency, to develop existing critical and policy perspectives of art production. I will expand critical and policy perspectives, evaluate the role of skills in political art practice, and propose a new approach to artistic pedagogy and curating.
