My research starts from the premise that the media are responsible for perpetuating inequality by reinforcing damaging narratives around disability. These representations influence societal perceptions of disability and have a tangible impact on policymaking. Understanding these narratives and the cultural context in which they originate is key to combating discrimination. This research project therefore looks at disability representation in online news with an intersectional and multi-method approach. It combines textual analysis and interviews with journalists and disabled people to provide action points for a better media representation of marginalised identities and advocating for their involvement in the process of media production.
