How musicians have been and are currenty impacted by copyright law in post-colonial Senegal and Ghana

Once freed from their Western rulers, Senegal and Ghana began a journey of self-identification. Music and folkloric works flourished, creating genres such as Mbalax and Highlife and meaning of what it is to be Senegalese or Ghanaian. At the same time, the governments of these two countries began the process of establishing their own copyright laws.

I will be researching how musicians have been and are currently impacted by copyright law in post-colonial Senegal and Ghana to discover how these laws can be adapted to further protect musical and folkloric works.
