Revealing George Shaw: A practice-based study into photography in Birmingham c.1839-1865

My research is about a very early photographer in Birmingham, George Shaw and intends to unpick his networks and activities. It involves making new images which reflexively communicate and develop understanding of the rich history of Photography in Birmingham. I work using processes from the beginning of Phortography, such as Camera Obscura, Calotype and Daguerreotype processes. I also often teach and lead workshops to translate these proceses into hands-on activities for various groups of participants
