My research will explore the relationships between amateur songwriters and infrastructures of the music industries. I will make case studies of a community of songwriters, conceptualising the creative labour of amateur musicians and the ways in which professional status is sought.
The scope of the research will include to research and develop definitions for the amateur songwriter, investigating the motivation behind amateur songwriting, the amateur songwriter’s statues in relation to the music industries and definitions of success exploring the songwriting process to discover how amateur songwriters distribute their work and the importance of infrastructures to provide support for this activity.
