My research is exploring disability and access in Conservatoire Education in the UK. With recent developments in adapted instruments, it is necessary for conservatoires to provide understanding and pathways to support the musicians using these instruments. Musicians with disabilities face multiple barriers throughout their careers and this study will explore how higher music educations programmes can be altered in order to break down these barriers and ensure that these musicians are supported. This is the first in-depth national study exploring the barriers to access, and participation in, higher musical education for disabled musicians.
