This practice-based research project aims to explore how contemporary music composition can engage with the legacies of women composers from the past and how a collage-based music theatre compositional style can bring their narratives to life. This will culminate in a series of music theatre pieces for voice, chamber ensemble and electronics, which will interweave primary source texts and recordings of music by historical women composers with contemporary media discussions of female creativity within classical music. Ultimately, this project seeks to reframe the stories and work of these women composers and their place in classical music history.
