This research project is concerned with the qualitative, critical reception of new literary writing – poetry, fiction and nonfiction – in the UK and is carried out in collaboration with Writing West Midlands, the Regional Literature Development Agency for the West Midlands. Its main objective consists in analysing the discourses surrounding contemporary literature, readers and writers using linguistic methodologies. It also seeks to investigate these discourses’ impacts on and implications for government funding policy relating to literary writing.
