Dr Mark Walker | Untimely Meditations (2): Late Foucault
“What I would like to stress…is this: there is no establishment of the truth without an essential position of otherness; the truth is never the same; there can be truth only in the form of the other world and the other life (l’autre monde et de la vie autre).”
Lectures at the College de France, 1981-1984
This PhD seminar explores the work of Foucault and his Untimely Meditations. Suggested reading ~ if you are new to Foucault or if you need to refresh then Arnold I. Davidson’s introduction to ‘The Hermeneutics of the Subject’ is a good place to start. Otherwise one, some, or all of the opening chapters in the three book of lectures under consideration:
The Hermeneutics of the Subject
The Government of Self and Others
