What exactly is practice-as-research?

Well … we’re not quite sure we can pin down exactly what it is either. But, that’s the exceptional quality of it – practice-as-research (or whatever else you want to call it) is perhaps defined most effectively by its resistance to be formally, firmly and fully defined.

What we are sure of though, is that there is some kind of practice-as-research-ness.

Join us in this playful and cross-disciplinary space to unpick/ articulate/ perform/ think through these complexities and tensions. We’ll begin with some definitions (wow there’s a lot of them) and see what other people have said before moving on to the stuff that matters: investigating what you think and which definitions you use, why you use them, and what you think are the differences and similarities.

Where exactly this will lead us we’re also not quite sure. But we will try to figure out:

- What is important to us all about practice-as-research?
- What are effective spaces/ environments/ ways of framing it?
- How can we discuss practice-as-research when we separate it from the reliance on subject specific terminology?
