The PhD Research Lab @ Birmingham School of Art emerged as a provocation to the notion of visibility in the broader university research environment. It aims to enable researchers to create, run, and produce an interactive, social and transdisciplinary environment that helps to forward their own research by providing an opportunity for students to engage with public through their own work. 11 researchers will raise questions on art as research, art in pedagogy, curating and caring, research and experimentations, innovative and creative ways of research dissemination and function of art institutions in the contemporary context.
PhD Research Lab will take place in Margaret Street (basement studio) between 26th June till 6th July with individual research events taking place starting from the 26th July leading and “dialoguing” with the PGR Studio conference starting on 6th July. Week commencing 21st June will allow student and the organisation staff of this project to prepare the environment, by setting up spaces for screenings, experimentation, life performances, mini-exhibitions, VR practice, group discussion and paper presentations.
