Composer and pianist Robert Mitchell is a throwback to the powerful tradition of artistic mastery in pursuit of transcendence. Whether performing solo or with his ensemble, his focus is upon the highest ideals of the essence of jazz. Robert has released 9 albums. He is proud to be a Steinway Artist and a Roland Artist, and in the past has performed with Courtney Pine, the Bournemouth Symphony Chorus, Steve Coleman, Basement Jaxx, Billy Harper, Alicia Olatuja, Omar Puente, Jhelisa Anderson, Julien Lourau, Norma Winstone, Orphy Robinson, DaymĂ© Arocena, Jose James and many more. He was recently MD on the BBC4 TV programme Jazz 625: Live For One Night Only and leads the groups Panacea, Epiphany3 and the newest addition – True Think whose debut will be out next year.
In this seminar he will discuss his approach to composition and performance, introduce some of his own compositions before inviting members of the audience to contribute either melodically or rhythmically to a performance of the music.
