Extracting Online Data for Research

June 15, 2016 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Nick Moreton is a web developer and lecturer with a particular interest in Data and Application Processing Interfaces (APIs). He has built several applications to aid colleagues in carrying out their research projects, including recently the J-Hive project carried out at the Cheltenham Jazz Festival, and the yearly Harkive project that collects data on music fan’s listening habits.
Using the techniques used to build these applications, this workshop will teach fellow researchers how to use simple online applications to extract rich data from complex web platforms, such as Twitter, and store it in a readable, searchable, usable format in a matter of minutes. No coding or technical skill required – just a computer and a web browser.
Please email admpgr-studio@bcu.ac.uk to book a place. All welcome!
