My PhD project seeks to explore sacred choral works by Pietro Torri (c. 1650-1737) in order to assess the importance of this hitherto neglected composer and his contribution to choral music at the court of Elector Maximillian II Emanuel in Munich, and more generally to the period. Through the creation of critical editions of selected, large-scale, sacred choral works written by Torri for Maximillian II Emanuel’s court, I hope to appraise the composer’s contribution to sacred choral music at this significant European court, and also his musical impact, more broadly.
