Publishing your research in written form is a key platform to disseminate it to a wider audience. However, writing for publication is much different from writing a thesis!

Where to start? Where to publish? And, how to write for publication? 

This session will include short talks from three speakers who will share their experiences of writing in different fields and contexts, as well as tips to help you in your research(er) journey. Talks will be followed by a panel discussion, with a chance for you to ask any questions.

Speakers

Prof Anthony Downey | Anthony has over 50 publications, from sole-edited books to journal articles, and chapter contributions to exhibition catalogue essays spanning subjects including contemporary art theory, cultural production and Middle Eastern art. Anthony will draw on his expertise to discuss writing for different audiences and the writing/publishing process.

Dr Charlie Sarson | Charlie will offer tips and advice, and discuss his experiences of authoring and publishing articles across a range of journals and disciplines and the processes leading to publication – including how to work with and respond to peer review. Charlie has also recently signed a contract with Routledge to publish his first book developed from his PhD thesis, Masculinity, Gay Men and the Cultures of Online Cruising, and will also discuss the initial stages of developing a monograph and the difference in writing styles required.

Dr Edmund Hunt | Edmund is currently working on the successful AHRC project ‘Augmented Vocality: Recomposing the Sounds of Early Irish and Old Norse.’ He has published widely on his research, most recently in the prestigious Journal for Artistic Research, which offers an alternative yet critical publishing platform for practice-based research. Edmund will talk about his publishing experiences in different contexts.
