This workshop will explore what is meant by artistic research and how it contributes to the formation of experimental knowledge systems. We have invited speakers—national and international—from across the spectrum of curating and arts programming to address how they work with artists’ research practices and large-scale projects. We will also examine, in relation to funding and research returns (REF), the role that artistic knowledge assumes in relation to research outputs, impact and teaching (TEF).
Speakers include:
• Amira Gad (Artistic Director, Lehmann Maupin, New York, Hong Kong, Seoul).
• Melanie Kidd (Director of Programmes, New Art Exchange)
• Alona Pardo (Curator, Barbican Gallery, London)
• Professor Carolina Rito (Professor of Creative Practice Research in the Centre of Arts, Memory and Communities, Coventry University)
Chair: Dr Anthony Downey (Professor of Visual Culture in North Africa and the Middle East, Birmingham School of Art, BCU)
This workshop is hosted by the Art Activisms Research Cluster at the School of Art.
