The University of Leicester, the University of Warwick, and Nottingham Trent University will be hosting this free one-day workshop for PhD researchers to offer a space for discussion of oral history tools and techniques, as well as the broader theoretical concepts behind the creation of oral history sources.

The workshop is designed to help PGR students navigate the unique challenges oral history methodologies can pose, to learn about and develop good practice in oral history, and to forge connections with fellow PhD candidates and professionals in the field.

The day will be split into three sessions:

1.     The context and boundaries of oral history projects – panel

2.     The oral history resource and its application to your project – 4 parallel workshops

3.     How to navigate ethics and safeguarding questions – panel

The day’s proceedings will include insight and analysis from academics, oral history professionals, and experienced PhD students. Each session will welcome questions from participants regarding their own research and experiences with oral historical sources and allow time for discussion.

The workshop is generously funded by the M4C Cohort Development Fund, though both M4C-funded and non-M4C funded PhD students are welcome.

Interested students are asked to e-mail oralhistory21@leicester.ac.uk  by 4th May 2021 to register for the event (places are limited).

Upon registering, participants will be invited to make a profile on Trello, which will serve as the hub for the event. Zoom links for the day’s workshop sessions, relevant documents and readings, and networking opportunities will be available on Trello.
