Riffs: Experimental writing on popular music is an emerging and exciting postgraduate journal at Birmingham City University.

This new journal offers postgraduates at BCU and beyond a creative and experimental space for writing and thinking about popular music, in addition to an online forum for the publication and hosting of high calibre postgraduate research in the area of popular music studies.

The Riffs journal launched on the 1st of February 2017 and has since gone on to publish many issues including bespoke live zine editions. The online and printed publication will include contributions from postgraduate students from institutions across the UK. The journal and the website can be found here.

Riffs will be published twice a year.

A Call for Papers will be circulated before each issue. All written, audio and visual contributions should be submitted in accordance with the editorial guidelines (provided at www.riffsjournal.org)

High calibre submission from undergraduate, Masters, PhD and Early Career Researchers will be considered. All contributions must engage with the prompt provided in the Call for Papers. We encourage written, audio and visual contributions.
