Exploring new ways of creating and composing opera to develop a broader cultural interface for the art-form and attract different audiences

My compositional process will be guided by exploring ways in which music can be engaging and yet retain its artistic integrity. By referencing contemporary opera, new eclectic musical genres and voice disciplines from other cultures, I will compose a work that is accessible yet compositionally vigorous. I worked towards this in my cabaret opera The Boy from Brazil for Tete a Tete andThe Butt just premiered at Musiktheatertage Festival in Vienna. By thinking out of the box and incorporating other areas of artistic disciplines I believe my research will assist in attracting new sections of society to attend opera.
