I examine rapport management in online video conferencing: means for creating and maintaining a harmonious relationship between conversation participants (cf. Spencer-Oatey & Franklin 2009). It is based on CASE, a corpus of ~300 informal Skype conversations between unacquainted students at universities worldwide, including both native and non-native speakers of English. The ongoing CASE (Corpus of Academic Spoken English) project, of which I am one of the lead corpus compilers and transcribers, is being coordinated by Saarland University: http://j.mp/CASEcorpus.
