International Responses to Shakespeare in the Collections of the Shakespeare Birthplace

The aim of my project is firstly to create an international collection at the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust; secondly to query the ‘amongness’ and ‘betweenness’ of Shakespeare’s cultural and political currency as interactions and exchanges manifested in cultural artefacts; and thirdly to create a comprehensive digital archive for the collection. Having an open source format, the digital archive will focus on the meeting points (the ‘between’) of the cultures of the world, and through strategic avoidance of an ethnocentric approach it will foster inclusivity and diversity within Shakespeare studies while boosting the role of the Birthplace as its centre.
